about
Vegur is the result of an intense preparation process for a first live show, only to be abruptly cancelled in the early days of the pandemic. The emphasis of the band is constructing an introspective musical world of experimental and ambient textures with sounds performed live and manipulated with analog effects. The sounds created live come from Carlo´s bass and his constructed amplified artifacts, Pau´s synthesizers and cassette player and Björt´s cello. The use of traditional amplifiers is also a conscious choice in the pursuit of the Fe Baido sound. Now on tape, Vegur - which means "path/road" in Icelandic (Björt's place of birth) - sounds indeed like an introspective journey longing to be shared with the outside world. Perhaps this even makes a much stronger statement, having the past 18 months in mind, now that the band is finally performing live shows at the moment of writing this text.

At points, this reminds me of the bands that defined early chillwave, like Ducktails, Memory Tapes, or Predator Vision; the guitars are similarly reverb-y and chorus-drenched, chords splashing out lazily and slow, swaggers subverted into saunters. However, the Eastern melodic flavor gives this more of an overtly mystical aesthetic, and the instrumentation and compositional elements are far more exotic and interesting. Highly recommended.
