about
This project, formed by Ana Arenas & Yunclas, ascends through the synergy between two people from two faraway places, both with a shared passion for flamenco - Asturias and Andalusia. In this union we find two musical languages that converge like a sound dialectic. Just as a dialogue flows, with the same sense of ambiguity; the duo are able to honor the flamenco atmosphere but still with improvisation as a core coordinate. By employing a loose background and a heightened, lucid focus, a relentless and transformed reverberation of industrial-esque noise is manufactured, and destroyed.
“Luddita” refers to the 19th century secret workers movement who destroyed textile machinery as a form of protest against automation and the rise of technology. A confrontational and frontal opposition that emerged as an answer to their premonitions of dystopia presented here in musical form. This work was recorded in its entirety in one session.

At points, this reminds me of the bands that defined early chillwave, like Ducktails, Memory Tapes, or Predator Vision; the guitars are similarly reverb-y and chorus-drenched, chords splashing out lazily and slow, swaggers subverted into saunters. However, the Eastern melodic flavor gives this more of an overtly mystical aesthetic, and the instrumentation and compositional elements are far more exotic and interesting. Highly recommended.
