Kazumi Sakoda is a Japanese artist based in Barcelona. Her field-recordings of the streets, squares, and festivities of her new hometown morph into a floating sound that breathes curiosity, nostalgia, and excitement at the same time. A fragile and adventurous soundtrack that displays how it feels for foreigners and outsiders who try to settle in the dynamic coastal city. Trying to find their way in its crazy beauty, and getting sucked up in its endless madness.

At points, this reminds me of the bands that defined early chillwave, like Ducktails, Memory Tapes, or Predator Vision; the guitars are similarly reverb-y and chorus-drenched, chords splashing out lazily and slow, swaggers subverted into saunters. However, the Eastern melodic flavor gives this more of an overtly mystical aesthetic, and the instrumentation and compositional elements are far more exotic and interesting. Highly recommended.
